After the first and third round selections tight end, running back and even safety were still positions of need to help the black-and-gold get to the next level in 2019. There have been numerous thoughts and debates regarding what the team will do on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. When the dust settled, the Steelers have selected Kentucky RB Benny Snell Jr, with their fourth round of the draft. For those who may not know much about Snell as a player, this is his overall breakdown of his game, per his NFL Draft Profile:The Pittsburgh Steelers’ draft needs in the remaining rounds of the draft now would be considered: Tight end, safety and outside linebacker among other positions. What do you think of the selection? Let us know by voting in the poll below and be sure to comment in the comment section below! Having failed to address their needs at safety via the draft, free agency currently offers the Steelers very few options."While the Pittsburgh Steelers may have addressed most of their keys needs during the 2019 NFL Draft, it would be fair to say that they still appear to be relatively light at safety. With just four players on the roster who have ever seen a snap at the professional level and two undrafted free agent currently representing the entire position group ahead of OTA’s, adding another veteran name to the mix might be a good idea.At this stage of the year in 2018 John Stallworth Jersey , the Steelers were preparing to start the offseason with free agent signings Morgan Burnett and Nat Berhe among the names competing for a roster spot with Sean Davis, Jordan Dangerfield, Malik Golden and rookies Terrell Edmunds and Marcus Allen. A year on and Pittsburgh has let both free agent signings leave, Golden was not re-signed and the only additions have been undrafted rookies Dravon Askew-Henry and P.J. Locke. A stagnant safety market left a number of viable options on the open market until well after the draft last year, but the same cannot be said of the current list of names still looking for a home in 2019. And if the Steelers have any hopes of upgrading their depth at the position ahead of training camp, barring a release elsewhere, there appears to be only two credible free agent safety candidates still available.Tre BostonShould Pittsburgh be willing to revisit a free agent they met with last year, they could yet add someone who has the skills to fill in at both safety positions if needed and the durability to suggest he will last a full season, unlike some of the options they tried in 2018. At only 26-years old, it is something of a surprise to see former Arizona Cardinals safety Tre Boston still without a team. The North Carolina product has started 38 games over the past three seasons for the Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers Jack Butler Jersey , recording a total of 211 tackles, 10 interceptions, 24 passes defended, two sacks and a forced fumble.Selected by the Panthers in the fourth-round of the 2014 NFL Draft , Boston was the 24th highest-graded safety in the league by Pro Football Focus last year, his overall grade of 74.1 the second highest score of his career to date. As per PFF, he allowed just 18 receptions on 30 targets for 189 yards and two touchdowns in 2018.Pro Football FocusSigned to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million by Arizona just before training camp last year, it is doubtful that Boston will command much more in 2019 having sat on the open market for so long once again. Open about his desire for a multi-year deal, the Steelers should be able to offer him a deal that matches his needs and still fits within their tight cap situation. Eric BerryIt is perhaps a sign of how weak the existing free agent market is at safety that a player who has managed just three games in the last two years is one of the only other credible option left at the position this offseason besides Boston, but the former Kansas City Chiefs standout was arguably one of the league’s best safeties when healthy. Aside from his currently level of fitness, perhaps the biggest obstacle to signing Eric Berry would be how much money he could reasonable expect to command. Anything too far above the league minimum would be difficult to accommodate Joe Greene Jersey , but it is hard to imagine the player who signed the largest contract ever given to a safety in 2017 will be prepared to discount himself that much. Having received just under $30 million from the Chiefs in the past two seasons alone, Berry could well consider sitting out the year if he cannot find the sort of money he is looking for. As a mentor to Davis and Edmunds, Berry could be invaluable, and if he was looking for a reserve role to ease himself back into football after missing most of 2017 and 2018, the Steelers could offer him the perfect situation. With Davis set to be a free agent in 2020, Berry could easily play himself into that job long-term as well. Berry last played a full season in 2016, recording 77 tackles, nine passes defensed, four interceptions and scoring twice. A season that received an overall grade of 89.9 from PFF. If the Steelers can get a fraction of the snaps he played at that level in 2019, the signing could be well worth it.

on TCU receiver Josh Doctson in 2016. He has not lived up to expectations.Doctson missed most of his rookie season with an Achilles’ injury D.J. Swearinger Jersey , and, in three seasons, he has made only 81 catches for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns. That has Washington back in the receiver market.“I think when you look across this league at this particular time when you talk about a receiver basically what I think what we need and what we’ve talked about is what you call a ‘go-to guy,'” Washington senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams said during his press conference. “That guy in tough times, no matter the situation, he’s going to be able to make plays for you — a tough guy who will go across the middle, a guy that will block for you, the guys that wants the football. I mean you don’t want to be all the way divas, but you want somebody who wants the football. If they don’t get it, you don’t want them in the press saying they didn’t throw me the football and you want them to be team players. I think we are looking for a guy that we know that when crunch times come, he’s going to be in the thick of it. I think that’s the most important thing.”This draft, though, might not hold a “go-to guy” that Williams and Washington covet. The team has featured a 1,000-yard receiver since 2016 when Pierre Garcon (1 Zach Brown Jersey ,041) and DeSean Jackson (1,005) both topped the mark. WASHINGTON (AP)Somehow, it was only after losing their top two running backs and two starting offensive linemen to season-ending injuries that the Washington Redskins found someone – Samaje Perine – to end a four-year drought of a player rushing for at least 100 yards in consecutive games. ”His vision has been good,” coach Jay Gruden said Friday about the rookie runner, ”and his decisiveness has been outstanding.” Perine gained exactly 100 yards on 24 carries in Washington’s 20-10 victory over the New York Giants on Thursday night. In the previous game, a loss at New Orleans, he ran for 117 yards on 23 carries. You have to go all the way back to Weeks 9 and 10 of the 2013 season to find someone topping 100 on the ground two games in a row for the Redskins: Alfred Morris. They’ll get a close-up look at Morris next week, when the Redskins play at his current team, the Dallas Cowboys in a matchup of NFC East rivals who are both 5-6. Perine, a fourth-round draft pick out of Oklahoma, got his chance to become a starter and carry the full load because Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson were put on injured reserve. Perine is suddenly Washington’s season leader in yards rushing with 427 – coincidentally, the same total he put up in one game for the Sooners against Kansas in 2014 to set a college football record. ”It’s an unfortunate situation,” Perine said Thursday about the injuries to his teammates, ”but I have to play for those guys, and that’s what I did tonight. I went out and I was thankful for them Matthew Ioannidis Jersey , and everything that they taught me in the short time I’ve been here.” He didn’t exactly get off to a terrific start against the Giants, gaining 3 yards on five carries in the first half. ”We just had to stay the course,” Perine said, ”and then things started going our way.” Gruden thinks it is not merely happenstance that the 5-foot-11, 236-pound Perine was more successful as the game proceeded. ”You can see that he gets better as the game goes on, so far, and that’s what’s been the most impressive,” Gruden said. ”I’ve liked the fact that after his 10th carry, he’s better than his first carry. And the 12th carry, he’s better than his 10th carry. He gets better and better.” And not exactly under ideal circumstances, either. Center Spencer Long and left guard Shawn Lauvao went on IR this week, and left tackle Trent Williams was absent, too, because of a painful right knee. With backup center Chase Roullier out with a broken right hand, third-stringer Tony Bergstrom got the start there. ”When you have a brand new center Ziggy Hood Jersey , and the left guard and left tackle haven’t played together at all, it’s not easy. But those guys did a nice job. It starts with Bergstrom, being able to come out there and make the calls, get people to the right people,” Gruden said. The coach also credited his runner. ”Samaje was decisive with his cuts,” Gruden said, ”and once he stuck his foot in the ground, he was rolling downhill, which really we were impressed with.” NOTES: Gruden said he has ”no idea right now” when TE Jordan Reed might return from a hamstring injury. He’s missed the last four games. ”The issue is, when he does come back, we’ve got to make sure he’s 100 percent so this thing doesn’t linger,” Gruden said. ”I don’t know if he’ll be back this week, the next week or four weeks.” … Gruden said he hopes that Williams can return to face Dallas. A ”major part” of why Williams sat out Thursday was that it was a short turnaround after playing last Sunday. ”It would be nice to have the same group one week to the next,” Gruden said about his offensive line. —

from a torn Achilles has passed a milestone.Sanders declared himself way ahead of schedule in his rehab last month and showed how far he’s come on Friday. Sanders shared video of himself running in cleats on a football field for the first time since getting hurt last December.“I’m proud of how I handled the process Shelby Harris Jersey ,” Sanders wrote. “I did no complaining or asking God why me. I merely said this all apart of my destiny. I endured the pain, I made the sacrifices and now I’m back running.”The Broncos didn’t add any wideouts in free agency to go with Sanders, Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick, but they did draft Juwann Winfree in the sixth round. The makeup of the group should leave Sanders with a major role on offense if all continues to be well with his Achilles. Duke head coach David Cutcliffe breaks down QBs on 1st & 10 on Orange and Blue 760"When Duke head coach David Cutcliffe joined Ryan Edwards, Andrew Mason and Steve Atwater on 1st and 10 on Orange and Blue 760 the first question on everyone’s mind was about QB prospect Daniel Jones.Cutcliffe is most famous for being the coach that worked with both Peyton and Eli Manning when they were in college. Jone’s has become Colby Wadman Jersey , “...a big, strong, fast man.” Perhaps the most telling statement about Jones that Cutcliffe gives is when he says, “he is one. He’s what you’re looking for.”Cutcliffe is a respected voice when it comes to quarterbacks. Peyton Manning worked with him throughout his career during the offseason. He knows arm talent, and sees Jones as a potential starter in the NFL. He certainly has his detractors, and Cutcliffe is surprised to see Jones not mentioned as a higher pick in all the mock drafts currently taking up space on my twitter feed.Listening to Cutcliffe Tramaine Brock Jersey , you can see why he is considered an expert on coaching quarterbacks. If the Broncos find themselves in a trade back scenario in the draft, he could be the target. Finding a QB to take over after the Joe Flacco era runs its course is hugely important. Whether Denver does that in this year’s draft or in a future draft remains to be seen.If it was in Cutcliffe’s hands, Jones would be high on John Elway’s list.

His 2018 performance earned him consensus first team All American recognition and he was selected to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl. At 6’8”, Parham looks like a man among boys in most of his film clips, evidencing a deceptive speed (4.67-4.75 40yd) Darrell Green Jersey , masked by his gazelle-like strides. His 38.5” vertical jump makes him an attractive red zone target and a persistent 50/50 threat. Given his slight frame, there’s speculation that, if he’s to make it at the NFL level, it will be as a large slot receiver, as opposed to a pure tight end.Even in the pros, however, it’s easy to imagine him being a mismatch with safeties as he goes over the middle.StrengthsGreat handsExcellent catch radiusRed zone weaponRidiculously tallDestroyed lesser competitionUses large frame to box out defendersWeaknessesNot built to be an in-line blockerAverage speedUnsophisticated route running abilityNot particularly strong for his sizeMay be a slot receiver at the NFL levelLet’s see his workHow He Would Fit On The RedskinsTwo of the three Redskins’ tight ends are aging and or excessively injury prone. The other one is still very much a work in progress and doesn’t look to be more than “just a guy.” The 2019 draft is the year that the Redskins should be looking to pick up several TEs both in the draft and as UDFAs. Parham projects as a late round pick with potentially a very high ceiling who could play both the slot and TE. Unfortunately, he doesn’t appear to have a lot of value in the context of special teams. However, with 36” arms Sammy Baugh Jersey , Parham has an unparalleled catch radius and the potential to be a quarterback’s best friend in the red zone. An injury that prevented Parham from playing at the Senior Bowl may help dampen his pre-draft exposure a bit, but make no mistake, he’s unlikely to be available after the final draft pick is made. Last year Washington drafted wide receiver Trey Quinn in the seventh round, and he showed promise in the preseason, but after a Week One ankle injury he ended up with just nine catches in the regular season. This year, much more is expected of him.Coach Jay Gruden says that after Jamison Crowder signed with the Jets, it’s on Quinn to take his place — and Gruden thinks Quinn can do that very well.“Obviously losing Crowder hurts, hurts quite a bit,” Gruden said. “But I’m ready to watch Trey Quinn jump in that slot role and dominate the position. I’m excited for him.”Told of Gruden’s comments Charley Taylor Jersey , Quinn said he was pleased to hear his coach has faith in him, but he knows he has a lot of work to do.“I’ve played two-and-a-half games, and that’s not enough to be a starting slot receiver. So I’m going to take this offseason pretty seriously,” Quinn said.Washington heads into the season with Colt McCoy or Case Keenum as quarterback. They’ll need all the help they can get, and if Quinn is as good as Gruden hopes, that would go a long way toward making Washington’s offense better than expected.

Last offseason P.J. Hall Jersey , the Eagles placed cornerback Daryl Worley on waivers after he was arrested less than a month after they acquired him. Worley cleared waivers, meaning no team in the league wanted him, even at a league-minimum salary. There was no market for him at all.The Raiders later signed him to a one-year deal, and he played fairly well for them last year — after serving a four-game suspension and before landing on injured reserve. But Worley did not play so well that it justifies the Raiders’ odd decision to put a second-round tender on him today.Worley is a restricted free agent, which means the Raiders just had to tender him for the right to match any offer he received, and get draft-pick compensation from a team that signed him if they chose not to match the offer. If the Raiders had put the original-round tender on Worley, they would have received a third-round draft pick from a team that signed him away. That would have been a great deal, a third-round pick for a player they got for free off waivers last year — and if they didn’t think it was a great deal, they could have just matched whatever offer Worley got. An original-round tender was all they had to put on Worley. But for some reason Johnny Townsend Jersey , the Raiders put a second-round tender on Worley. That means they’re going to have to pay him $1 million more this season than they would have had to pay him on an original-round tender. The only reason it makes an sense to tender him at the second-round level is if they thought some team would have signed him away at the lower tender. And it’s very, very hard to imagine that would have happened. The Raiders’ front office has made quite a few questionable decisions since Jon Gruden took over last year. This is another one. It’s great for Worley that he’ll make $1 million more than he otherwise would have, but it’s hard to understand why the Raiders, with so many holes at so many positions, were willing to throw away $1 million worth of cap space. Slowed by a sore knee, Aaron Rodgers picked up the pace behind center.Remarkably, the two-time NFL MVP was more effective against the Chicago Bears after returning from what initially looked like a serious injury. The hobbling quarterback threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter after returning from injury, and the Green Bay Packers overcame a 20-point deficit for a thrilling 24-23 win over the Bears on Sunday night.Rodgers connected with receiver Randall Cobb for a catch-and-run through the secondary for a 75-yard touchdown and the go-ahead score with 2:13 left in the game."You've seen it time and time again. That guy's a warrior," Cobb said.Rodgers was hurt in the second quarter after slipping to the turf while under pressure from linebacker Khalil Mack and defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris. The lineman landed on Rodgers Reggie Nelson Jersey , who grabbed the back of his left leg. He had ACL surgery on his left knee in college.Rodgers was carted back to the locker room. Doctors determined he did not suffer a major injury and cleared him to return in the second half. The Packers had to make a slight adjustment with their normally mobile quarterback limited to the pocket."Got to get the ball out. Can't be moving around a whole lot back there," Rodgers said. "And we did a good job mixing things up in the second half with some of our quicker-hitter stuff and actually some of our more vertical stuff, too."Rodgers also had touchdown passes to Geronimo Allison (39 yards) and Davante Adams (12 yards) in completing the rally from a 20-0 deficit with 9:14 to go in the third quarter.Rodgers finished 20 of 30 for 286 yards, including 17 of 23 for 273 yards in the second half."Obviously, that's a tough one for us. It stings," coach Matt Nagy said after his Bears debut.MACK ATTACK: A Chicago defense featuring newly acquired star linebacker Khalil Mack dominated until the third quarter. Mack had a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown against backup quarterback DeShone Kizer in the second. He had a strip-sack that led to another turnover. He had pressure in the backfield on a play in which Rodgers hurt his left knee. This from a player who missed the entire preseason. The Bears acquired Mack last week in a trade with the Oakland Raiders."I prepared all offseason for the first game of the season and I wanted to ... make an impact," Mack said. "But you want to win these games. That's the only thing on my mind. I hate losing."FAST START: An offensive-minded coach, Nagy had the aggressive Bears' offense pushing the Packers around the field in the first half. Mitchell Trubisky was 23 of 35 for 171 yards. He also ran for 32 yards on seven carries, including a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. It turned out to be the only offensive touchdown the Bears would score all night. The Packers' defense Kolton Miller Jersey , in new coordinator Mike Pettine's first game, held the Bears to two field goals in the second half."You know we talked about finishing and we didn't do that," Nagy said.COMEBACK COMPLETE: Nick Perry sacked the Bears' Mitchell Trubisky on fourth-and-10 with 58 seconds to complete the comeback. It was memorable start to the Packers' 100th season. Sunday marked the first time in franchise history that the Packers won after trailing by 17-plus points entering the fourth quarter, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.MORE RODGERS: Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he was prepared to go with Kizer to start the second half until getting the word from the team doctor in the tunnel."His performance speaks for itself," McCarthy said.Rodgers said he knee was swollen after the game. The Packers plan to run more tests on their QB on Monday, though Rodgers seems very optimistic to about his availability for next week's game against Minnesota."No, I'm planning on playing," Rodgers said.OTHER DEBUTS: Chicago's Allen Robinson had four catches for 61 yards on seven targets in his debut as the Bears' top receiver. ... TE Jimmy Graham had two catches for eight yards on four targets after joining the Packers as a free agent in the offseason from the Seattle Seahawks.

There were concerns that he wasn’t very fast, but he ran a 4.4 at his Pro Day so he is plenty fast once he gets going. However, he does struggle to separate at the top of his routes, and his success came against lower-level competition.VerdictKeelan Doss has been a tremendously productive receiver for three seasons with the UC Davis Aggies, accumulating over 4,000 receiving yards and 28 TDs. He has all the traits and intangibles that one likes to see in a receiver prospect, and was considered a fifth-round draft prospect going into April. However, a pectoral injury suffered at the Combine not only kept him from doing all the receiver drills, it also likely knocked him out of the Draft entirely. The Raiders got a real steal here with a guy who should have been drafted early on the third day of the draft.Fit with RaidersOakland has addressed their WR position more than any other spot on their team. They have added guys like Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, JJ Nelson Derek Carr Jersey , Ryan Grant, and Hunter Renfrow. That’s not including some of the guys the Raiders added last year like Marcell Ateman and Saeed Blacknall. But Doss is better than several names on that list and as long as he performs well in camp he should be able to carve out a spot on the Raiders. The guy Doss reminds me of the most is Jordy Nelson, and the Raiders could always use a player like that who is still young.Watch Keelan Doss Highlights here The NFL was founded in 1920, which would make this the 100th Anniversary of the NFL. The league is planning a season-long celebration of its success and commitment to not knowing what a catch is, and part of that is the Games of the Week. Each week during the upcoming season, the NFL will designate one game its 100th Anniversary Game of the Week, and it will be a game with some historical significance to the history of the NFL. It may be a long-standing rivalry like Week 1’s game featuring the Packers vs. Bears or Week 10’s Falcons-Saints game or Week 14’s Browns vs. Bengals Battle of Ohio tilt. The Raiders have a total of three games on the NFL100 Game of the Week list, which is great, but is made doubly sweet because the Steelers don’t have any.The first NFL100 Game of the Week featuring the Raiders comes in Week 7, in which the Raiders travel to Lambeau Field in a rematch of Super Bowl 2. NFL.com says this:“Two of the league’s storied franchises met in Super Bowl II, which saw the Packers win a second straight championship by soundly defeating the Raiders, 33-14.”The Packers actually have another Game of the Week the following week when they go to Kansas City to rehash Super Bowl 1. Hopefully they trash the Chiefs this year too.In Week 12, the Raiders travel to New York for their second NFL100 game, taking on the Jets in a rematch of the Heidi Game which forever changed the rules of broadcasting. NFL.com says,“Perhaps a sign of the times, but what happened on Nov. 17, 1968, when the game was cut off on the East Coast to show the film “Heidi” isn’t likely to ever happen again.”And finally, the Raiders’ third NFL100 game takes place Week 16 in Los Angeles, where the Raiders will pay homage to the Holy Roller game, in which the Raiders used the fumble as an offensive weapon.“The Raiders and Chargers produced the “Holy Roller” game in 1978 and the result forever changed the NFL’s rule on an offense’s ability to advance recovered fumbles. In the contest, Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler avoided a sack by throwing the football forward towards the goal line. Running back Pete Banasnak touched the ball, then used both hands to shove the football forward. Tight end Dave Casper then recovered the football in the end zone to give the Raiders a 21-20 win.”I think this is a pretty cool idea by the league, which has had more than its share of huge games, big rivalries and revolutionary moments in its 100-year history. And hey, the Raiders won two of the three games they’re being honored for playing in in dramatic and totally improbable ways, so that’s a plus. So which of these three games do you think was most important in league history, and which is your favorite? Are there any other important Raider moments you would have liked to see included that involve teams on this year’s schedule?

Shane Ray Jersey , Vic Fangio has spent 19 seasons as an NFL defensive coordinator starting with his stint as the first ever defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. He was also the first ever defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. That being said, I think there is much we can learn from not only how his defenses have performed, but from the production that he has gotten from his defensive players. Much like Wade Phillips, Vic Fangio, as a defensive coordinator likes to adapt his scheme to fit his players, not the other way around. He should be able to get the most out of Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Derek Wolfe and (even) Demarcus Walker. It is widely reported that the Broncos and Vic Fangio want Ed Donatell to the be defensive coordinator. That would make sense as Donatell has followed Fangio to San Fransisco and then to Chicago. For him to follow Fangio to Denver makes all the sense in the world. It also stands to reason that if Ed is running the defense then the defense will be the same defense that Vic would be running if he were the defensive coordinator. THis could end up with something like what Andy Reid does in KC where he is not the offensive coordinator, but he really is the offensive coordinator. For those who might remember the name, Ed Donatell, he was the defensive backs coach for the Broncos in 2009 and 2010. That 2010 defense was one of the worst in the history of the NFL (I’m not exaggerating, I remember writing about this back in 2010 when I was just a reader and fanpost contributor here). Of course, Ed was also our DB coach for five years in the late 90s including for our back-to-back Super Bowl winning teams. So how have Fangio’s defenses done statistically during his 19 seasons as a defensive coordinator. Here is a table that is pulled directly from pro-football-reference.com.Firstly, there is plenty to digest in this table. Focus on the column labelled Pts. He has had five different stops: Carolina, Indianapolis, Houston, San Francisco and Chicago. He built a defense in Carolina through the expansion draft and the regular draft that was 8th in points allowed in its first season and 2nd in points allowed in its second season. The 1996 Panthers team made it to (and lost in) the NFC championship game. His defenses got progressively worse in his 3rd and 4th years in Carolina, finishing 13th in points in 1997 and 27th in points in 1998. After getting let go from the Panthers, Fangio landed the DC position with the Colts under Jim Mora. In 1999, the Colts defense was good enough to allow a young #1 draft pick QB by the name of Peyton Manning to the lead the team to a 13-3 record. That defense was good enough to allow the Colts to lose a heart-breaker to the Titans (19-16) in the divisional round. The Titans would go on to play in their one and only super bowl that year, losing a heart-breaker to the Rams. The Colts defense in 2000 was comparable to their 1999 defense, but the Colts would only finish 10-6 and lose in the wild card round to the Dolphins. The 2001 Colts defense was terrible, finishing second to last in past allowed. The Colts would finished 6-10 leading to the firing of Jim Mora and the loss of a DC job for Fangio. After Indy Fangio moved on to the Texans where he had the task of building the Texans defense from the ground up much like he had with the Panthers. However, he was not able to replicate the immediate success that he found with the Panthers defense. In fact his defenses in Houston never ranked better than 15th in points allowed and the Texans never finished better than 7-9 while he was the DC there. After finished 2-14 in the 2005 season, Dom Capers was fired as the head coach and Vic was again out of work. His next stop would take him to Baltimore where he would get to coach the linebackers and Ray Lewis in his prime. In his four years with the Ravens as LB coach, their defense would finish 1st, 22nd, 3rd and 3rd in points allowed and make the playoffs three out of four years. The one year they didn’t was the year the both Ed Reed and Ray Lewis got hurt. In 2010 Jim Harbaugh, whose brother John was on the coaching staff in Baltimore with Vic, would convince Vic to move with him to Northern California to be the defensive coordinator for the Stanford Cardinal (notice that is singular since it is a color, not a bird). That Stanford team would finish 12-1 overall Justin Simmons Jersey , 4th in the country and win both the Pac-10 and the Orange Bowl. Fangio would make very good use of an extremely intelligent tall CB named Richard Sherman who was very quick but not very fast. You might have heard of him. Other than Sherman, Fangio had very little in the way of NFL-level talent on his defense. Stanford would have only one other defensive player who played under Fangio drafted, Sione Fua, who spent some time with the Broncos. Jim Harbaugh would then get hired away by the 49ers and ask Vic to make the move with him back to the NFL. Fangio was the DC for the 49ers from 2011-2014. His defenses in San Francisco were great. The 49ers were 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 10th in points allowed during Vic’s four seasons there. Those defenses were led by two dynamic ILBs in Navarro Bowman and Patrick Willis - both of whom were AllPro in 2011 and 2012. Bowman was named 1st team AllPro in 2013 as well. The 2014 defense that only finished 10th in points allowed had neither Bowman or Willis. The 2014 season would be the season where the 49ers locker room imploded forcing the firing of Jim Harbaugh and the loss of a job for Vic. So this brings us to Chicago where Vic was most recently as the defensive coordinator. His defenses were in the bottom third of the league in points allowed for the first two seasons in Chicago but then improved to 9th in 2017 and 1st overall in 2018. It definitely helped for the Bears to get overrated OLB, Khalil Mack from the Faiders, but Fangio had been doing a good job of developing the defensive talent that they have been drafting during the previous three seasons. From 2015-2018 the Bears did a good job of finding starters for their defense in the draft. In 2018, six of their 11 starters (7 of 12 if you count their CB3) on defense were drafted by the them (or signed as UDCFA and developed). The other starters were good free agent signings (Akiem Hicks, Danny Trevathan, Prince Amukamara) or via trade (Mack). It would appear to me that we can expect a return to dominant defense if history is to be our guide. I would also not be surprised (assuming Fangio has significant input into the draft) to see the Broncos using a high draft pick on a speedy ILB/MLB like Roquan Smith. Who are the best players available for the Denver Broncos on Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft? Christopher Hart updates his remaining Big Board and shares his thoughts."It’s never a dull moment covering the 2019 NFL Draft and the Denver Broncos made several moves on the first day that had all of Broncos Country at the edge of their seat. To start off their evening, they acquired an extra second-round selection (#52 overall) and a future third round selection from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who traded up for Michigan linebacker Devin Bush. After dropping own to the twentieth overall selection, the franchise selected high-profile tight end Noah Fant, giving them a dynamic weapon at the position they haven’t had in half a decade. (ICYMI — here is my scouting report on Fant.)After the first round was in the books, twenty-three prospects in my top thirty-two went in the first round. Six others who ended up going on the first day were ranked thirty-three through forty-two respectively, with only three players outside the the top fifty going in the first. So who are the best players from my board that still remain and which of them could be favorites to land with the Broncos tomorrow evening? Let’s take a look.Hart’s Best Players Available for Day 219. Jawaan Taylor, OT — FloridaThe reason Taylor is still available is simple — there are medical concerns with his knee according to various reports. I’m not big on taking prospects with injury risks high in the draft, so I’d hope the Broncos would pass on him given that issue.21. Byron Murphy, CB — WashingtonIf the Broncos somehow ended up with Murphy in the second round I’d be absolutely elated. He is a tremendous fit for Vic Fangio’s defense and is one of the ‘stickiest’ corners in the draft. When you factor in the Chris Harris Jr. situation — it’s quite clear Denver needs to find themselves another cornerback.23. Drew Lock, QB — MissouriI’m not too surprised that Lock slid out of the first round. His mechanics are a mess (especially his footwork) which has a negative impact on his overall accuracy. However, his potential and talent may be too good for the Broncos to pass up if he is on the clock at #41 overall. Kevin Hogan and Garrett Grayson aren’t quality back-up material and they aren’t guys you want starting at any point ever.24. Greedy Williams, CB — LSUWilliams isn’t the best fit for the Broncos’ defense, but you he has traits you can’t teach and if he puts it all together and improves upon his tackling he could be a quality boundary corner in the National Football League. Those are two big ifs but in the second round the risk is worth the reward.26. Dalton Risner, OL — Kansas StateThe Broncos like Risner and if available he would be an obvious choice for the franchise considering they have significant needs long-term on the interior. His ability to play four spots (everything but left tackle) only adds to his value. Don’t be surprised if he is one of the prospects Denver selects on Day 2.28. Nasir Adderley, S — DelawareWill Parks and Justin Simmons are both free agents after the end of next season. While I envision one of them receiving a contract extension, I’m not sure both do. Adderley is a ball-hawking defensive back who forces a lot of turnovers. He would be a dark horse pick for sure but a great value selection nevertheless.29. D.K. Metcalf, WR — Ole MissThe Broncos drafted Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton in last year’s draft and added a dynamic tight end in Fant to their roster yesterday evening. Could you imagine the Broncos’ offense with Metcalf added into the mix? Good luck to opposing secondaries if that happens.30. Cody Ford, OT — OklahomaMike Munchak is one of the best in the business at coaching up offensive lineman and Ford has a tremendous amount of athleticism for a man his size. His best fit might be at offensive guard and the Broncos do have a need there.32. Rock Ya-Sin, CB — TempleThe aforementioned Murphy and Williams are still available, but Ya-Sin is a rock solid corner who can compete for snaps immediately. His physicality and strong tackling line up with the aggressive attitude of Fangio’s defense. The Remainder of Hart’s Top 10035. Irv Smith Jr. Adam Gotsis Jersey , TE — Alabama39. A.J. PITTSBURGH (AP) —  on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The longtime head coach is not ruling it out either. The star wide receiver went radio silent in the days before the team’s regular-season finale against Cincinnati last Sunday Hines Ward Jersey , in essence abandoning the club in what Tomlin described as its “darkest hour.”Though Brown did make a cameo appearance on the sideline — rocking a fur coat — as the Steelers edged the Bengals , he vanished before the final gun and did not show up on Monday for exit interviews and to clear out his locker.Tomlin said Brown arrived at practice last Wednesday reporting discomfort in his lower body. The team gave Brown the day off, did so again on Thursday. On Friday, Tomlin sent Brown home to rest and suggested he get an MRI on the banged up knee.Tomlin did not hear from Brown on Saturday to get an update. When Drew Rosenhaus, Brown’s agent, reached out on Sunday morning to tell Tomlin that Brown was available to play, Tomlin “drew a line in the sand” and said Brown could best serve the Steelers by cheering on the sideline. While Tomlin demurred when asked during his season-ending news conference on Wednesday if Brown “quit,” the longtime head coach offered little in defense of the perennial Pro Bowler, whose historic production has become increasingly at odds with his erratic off-the-field behavior.“The bottom line is we were playing a significant game and he didn’t do a good enough job of communicating of being available in the hours leading up to that performance,” Tomlin said.“So we needed to make decisions pertinent to getting to play in that performance. So, I’ve been real clear at outlining what transpired Heath Miller Jersey , the level of communication, things of that nature. Obviously there are some things within that that you can infer, certainly.”Rather than spend time elaborating on how the Steelers went from 7-2-1 the week before Thanksgiving to 9-6-1 and missing the postseason for the first time since 2013 — a collapse Tomlin plans to “wallow” in over the next few weeks — he spent the majority of his time responding to questions about Brown. It’s nothing new. The 30-year-old is the only player in NFL history with six straight 100-catch seasons, but has become adept at drawing headlines for things that have nothing to do with football, be it livestreaming from the postgame locker room in Kansas City two years ago to threatening a reporter from ESPN on social media in September to suggesting on Twitter he should be traded .It hasn’t stopped. As Tomlin spoke, Brown — who has three years remaining on his four-year, $72 million extension he signed in the spring of 2017 — published a post on Instagram to his 3.1 million followers saying “I am divinely blessed with free will. I utilize that gift, choosing to take charge of my life.” Brown also appeared with former teammate James Harrison, who promised an exclusive “interview” with Brown.Tomlin has long had a policy of trying to tune out what his players say or do on social media, but admitted there’s a level of “disappointment” when it comes to Brown’s actions before adding it’s immaterial to his job.Asked if there’s a point with Brown or any player where the distractions can outweigh the on-the-field benefits, Tomlin said “certainly.”Whether the Steelers are at that point is unclear. Tomlin said the team has not received any “formal” trade requests from Brown’s camp.Tomlin declined to get into what punishment Brown may face in the future Louis Lipps Jersey , saying the club is still gathering information. Tomlin does believe that Brown was dealing with some type of injury, but added to his knowledge that Brown has not undergone the MRI.“Like we do in all circumstances, we will deal with it appropriately and deal with it in-house,” Tomlin said.Brown’s future status is just one of a number of questions the Steelers will face over the next few months, starting with the coaching staff. The defense and special teams both had critical missteps this season and offensive line coach Mike Munchak is in the mix for several open head coaching positions.“When you lack success, when you fail, change is a part of it,” Tomlin said. “We talk about it. As a staff we talk about it. As players, in exit meetings. That’s just our business.”So lately, has been addressing the perpetual drama surrounding one of the NFL’s most talented and mercurial players. Several people have asked if we could bring back the Friday Night Open Thread. I had moved the event to Saturday morning, but after minimal success John Stallworth Jersey , I decided to bring it back to Friday night — with a slight twist.I liked the Saturday Six-Pack theme, so I decided to just take the six questions and move them to Friday night. Say hello to Friday Night Six-Pack of Steelers Questions and open thread! The rules haven’t changed...Quick rundown of the ground rules.I’ll ask at least four questions strictly related to the Steelers. The rest of the questions could be about anything.Be respectful.Have fun talking about the Black-and-gold.That’s it! With that out of the way, it’s time to get this party started. Hey, don’t act like you’ve never done a little Friday night drinking. Here goes:1. Who wins the following games:Cleveland @ Tampa BayNew Orleans @ BaltimoreCincinnati @ Kansas City2. Are you now a believer in the Steelers? If not, explain what would need to take place before you believe again. 3. OVER/UNDER number of TD passes Patrick Mahomes has vs. the Bengals: 34. Predict the winner of the Steelers’ next three games:Week 8 - vs. ClevelandWeek 9 - at BaltimoreWeek 10 - vs. Carolina (TNF)5. Clearly fines don’t change Vontaze Burfict’s behavior. If you were Roger Goodell, and try to be as unbiased as possible, what would your punishment for Burfict be? Explain your reasoning.6. The trade deadline is looming. If you were to draw up a REALISTIC trade, who would be coming and going? No matter what, always remember...HERE WE GO STEELERS!PODCASTS

The goal is to give readers a handy spot to check the Redskins beat writers & bloggers, and national sports journalists to keep up on the latest news about the Redskins, the NFL, and sports in general, along with a sprinkling of other stuff.NFL News twitter feed:Tweets from https://twitter.com/HunterLoganX/lists/nfl-rumors-and-reportersRedskins twitter feed:Tweets from https://twitter.com/HunterLoganX/lists/beat-writersAn under-the-radar Redskin: LB Dadi Nicolas I saw the press release when it was sent out; I even copied it and pasted it into a comment somewhere on Hogs Haven at the time:I didn’t pay much attention to it.The bottom-of-the-roster churn during training camp usually doesn’t mean much to me — the 90th guy on the roster being changed out seems hardly noteworthy once camp is underway.(Heck, we’ve had two other roster moves since this one was announced — the team added LB Cassanova McKinzy & DL Dante Sawyer and cut LB Alex McAlister & DL Tavaris Barnes.)But during the game against the Patriots, the radio crew of Larry Michaels, Chris Cooley and Doc Walker highlighted that Dadi Nicolas was in the game in the first half, and mentioned that he was another Va Tech alumnus. He made a couple of notable plays during the game, which got me intrigued.Who is this guy?Well Sammy Baugh Jersey , it turns out that this isn’t his first NFL rodeo, so to speak.BackgroundNicolas is yet another NFL player who was born in Haiti, but grew up in the U.S., in Florida. He only started playing football as a high school senior, and then enrolled at Virginia Tech.Following a redshirt freshman year, he played in 10 games as a sophomore, but started every game in his junior year.He lost a lot of his senior year to a broken left hand, but was projected as a late round pick for the draft. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 6th round of the 2016 draft.MeasurablesWhat happened at Kansas City?Nicolas, who might’ve been seen as a practice squad candidate, was actually active for 11 games that season, though his only entry into the stat sheet was a pass defended.Arrowhead Pride described his role on the team in 2016 this way:At the end of the season, he was seriously injured Earnest Byner Jersey , and was placed on injured reserve on January 4, 2017 after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon. The article and comments on the Arrowhead Pride website generally reflect that fans had high hopes for his development, and — while his 2016 contributions wouldn’t necessarily be hard to replace — they saw him as a player with the ability to grow into a consistent contributor from the linebacker position.Going into the 2017 season, Nicolas was placed on the physically unable to perform list, and didn’t see the field during the season. In May this year, just over three months ago, Nicolas’ former GM, John Dorsey tried to acquire him for the Browns, according to NFL.com.However two days later, the trade was called off and voided without an explanation given from either team. Nicolas was waived by the Chiefs days later. From there, as a new free agent, Nicolas signed with the Seattle Seahawks in May only to later be released that same month.Dadi becomes a RedskinAs we’ve already seen Dustin Hopkins Jersey , the Redskins announced on the 1st of August that Nicolas had been signed.Early reports gave a concise summary of Big Dadi’s career to date:How does he fit on the team?Nicolas appears to be a good, if low-key signing by the Redskins. He’s a versatile linebacker who is still developing his game, and who appears to have decent pass rush skills. He is an experienced special-teamer, and, with just 13 NFL games on his resume, can be stashed on the practice squad to continue his development and provide protection against late-season injuries.I looked through the play-by-play for the first pre-season game againt New England (which just ended) and counted Nicolas as being credited with 3 tackles. He seemed to me to play pretty well, though I’m no kind of analyst. With the number of players in front of him (he’s probably behind Pete Robertson on the depth chart), Nicolas probably isn’t going to be on the 53 in Week 1 against the Cardinals, but he looks like a very strong candidate for a practice squad spot, and it would only take an injury or two to see him on the field in burgundy and gold in December.

Winovich can develop into a starter within a year or two. With the intensity he plays with, he can make an immediate impact as a rookie on defense or special teams. The San Jose Sharks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 on Sunday and then proceeded to land one of their forwards in a trade. The Red Wings announced they traded right-winger Gustav Nyquist to San Jose in exchange for a 2019 second-round draft pick and 2020 conditional third-round draft pick. John Shannon of Sportsnet noted Nyquist waived his no-trade clause to facilitate his move to the Sharks.Nyquist scored a goal in the loss to the Sharks and had 48 points on 15 goals and 33 assists in his first 61 games of the season for Detroit. He is a consistent playmaker in the offensive zone and has tallied 40 or more points in each of the last six seasons. He is a free agent following this season Vladimir Tarasenko Jersey , so it made sense for the struggling Red Wings to trade him before potentially losing him to the open market without a return. Only the Ottawa Senators (49 points) have fewer points in the Eastern Conference than Detroit's 55.As for the Sharks, they are in second place in the Pacific Division with 82 points and primed for a potential playoff run in the Western Conference. They are third in the league in goals per game (3.62), and Nyquist gives them someone who figures to only bolster those totals. Not only was San Jose able to land an impact player like Nyquist without giving up a first-round pick, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic noted the Red Wings will retain 30 percent of his salary. He could make his debut for San Jose on Tuesday when it takes on the Boston Bruins. In doing so, he joins Wayne Gretzky as the only two players in NHL history to win the scoring race more than once at 22 years of age or younger.”That is pretty special,” the Oilers captain said. ”That is some pretty good company to be a part of. Raider Nation confidence holds steady after loss in Denver Oakland Raiders Hats , suggesting possible ‘moral victory’ in Derek Carr performance With an 0-2 start to the season, right now Raiders Nation is grasping at whatever hope they have that things will turn around soon. Two second half collapses in which the Raiders have been outscored 43-7 would figure to be pretty damaging. After the first week, our confidence poll showed a drop from 82% to 50%. A second loss in Denver would figure to drop that confidence some more. But it didn’t This week our FanPulse confidence poll remained steady at 50%The only place that hope could be coming from right now is from the show Derek Carr put on in Denver.Even with the Raiders losing the game 20-19, Carr finished 29 of 32 for 288 yards and a touchdown. His 90.6 completion percentage 4th in NFL history for QB’s with at least 27 attempts. Just three completions, with one of them a flat drop by the fullback on what would have been a crucial 4th down conversion late in the game.No one likes the term ‘Moral victory’ but the results here suggest it’s real. Carr has an abysmal performance in the opener against the Rams. He turned it around in the second game which is a tremendous relief for fans. Therefore, even with another loss, they don’t feel any different now than they did last week. Half are confident, the other half, not so much. My guess is a win in Miami would quickly shoot that confidence back up. Should they lose Oakland Raiders Hoodie , it will be interesting to see what it does to the confidence poll then. Results are from our SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across the NFL powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Raiders fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.Follow @LeviDamien As a combo, the Denver Broncos' two highest-paid players aren't exactly money yet.Although Demaryius Thomas caught the winning touchdown pass from Case Keenum in their opener, the pair making a combined $27 million this season have 10 missed connections so far. That's almost as many connections — 11 for 81 yards — as they've made together.Calculating incompletions where he got both hands on the ball, Thomas leads the league with five drops so far.Thomas had two early drops in the opener but bounced back to catch a 4-yard dart from Keenum to beat the Seahawks in Week 1. Thomas dropped three passes against the Raiders last week, when he had five receptions for 18 yards. Only four times has he had fewer yards in a game since becoming a starter in 2012.His biggest drop last week came with Denver at midfield, trailing by two points with 22 seconds left. Thomas sprinted up the right sideline and deked his defender into leaving him wide open. Keenum delivered a pass on target and on time Customized Oakland Raiders Jerseys , but the ball sailed through Thomas' hands. On the next play, Keenum hooked up with Tim Patrick for his first NFL reception, a 26-yarder that set up Brandon McManus' 36-yard field goal that beat the Raiders 20-19 .Thomas' early-season troubles are reminiscent of 2015, when he dropped eight passes before November, then added five drops against New England in a game when his sole catch proved crucial to Denver's win in overtime that helped propel the Broncos to the Super Bowl 50 title.Thomas said his only focus this week was on trying to help his team out Sunday when the Broncos (2-0) visit Baltimore (1-1), and his latest bout of drops apparently hasn't alarmed his coaches."He's OK," coach Vance Joseph said, adding that the coaching staff can provide a boost by calling his number early and often."It's our job to get him going early and to get him his confidence early," Joseph said. "When guys go through a whole half and have one attempt or two attempts www.raidersfootballauthentics.com , that's tough for receivers. If he has his first attempt and he drops it or it's a bad ball, that's a mind war. It's our job to get him going early. It's his job to play with confidence, and he will."Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said he believes that corrections need to be made in the flow of the game without regard to a specific player who might be struggling with catches or confidence."We're just trying to give everybody the ball," Musgrave said. "We don't want to start worrying about one guy here ... We've just got to let the ball find everybody in the system, whether it's handing off or throwing it. If we do a good job, I think everybody will get their touches."Keenum sees any hiccups right now as the inevitable crimps that will dissipate as the offense develops."The team that you are in September is always very different then the team you are in December," Keenum said. "I think that's why you come out every day and practice. You grind away at those little itty-bitty details, mechanics and footwork, routes and protections Oakland Raiders T-Shirt , so that you can keep building this library, keep building this trust, keep building this chemistry with these guys with the offensive line, the running backs, the receivers."All so you can trust on that when it comes down to December, January, and hopefully February."ROUGHING RULEJoseph said he understands why the league is emphasizing roughing calls on quarterbacks this season."They want the quarterback not to be punished. Back when I played, that was the key to the game: How much can you punish the quarterback? But it's changed," Joseph said. "They want you to sack the quarterback and turn your body and not put your full body weight on the guy."Joseph said he concurs with the league's efforts to keep QBs safe."I don't want Case hit that way. So Oakland Raiders Hats , it goes both ways with the players. So, I agree with it," Joseph said. "We haven't had a play yet that has cost us. So, I don't have a problem with it. That could change in two weeks. But it's for the safety of the position."
